3 Nights 4 Days Sarajevo Tour
Tour Program
Departure from Istanbul by our scheduled flight and arrival in Sarajevo. Meet our guide from BALKAN TOUR at the airport. We head towards Baščaršija with our private vehicle. On the way, we will see buildings bearing the scars of bombardments from war times, the first electric tramway line in Europe that still actively runs through Sarajevo, buildings that used to belong to the Tito era Yugoslav People's Army but are now part of the Sarajevo university campus, the second largest building of the United States, the Sarajevo City Museum, the Parliament building, and the largest shopping mall in the region built by Arab investors before arriving in Baščaršija. Our first stop is the martyr's memorial, which houses the grave of the martyrs from the tragic war between 1992-1995 and is the resting place of Alija Izetbegović. We recite Fatiha for the war martyrs and receive information from our guide about the first president of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegović, and his life. Then we begin our walking tour in Baščaršija by passing through the cobblestone streets of the surviving Bosnian-Turkish neighborhood from the Ottoman period. The places we will see during our tour include:
Later, we will meet at the time determined by our guide and head to our hotel. After resting for about an hour at the hotel, we will have our dinner, "Ćevapi" (Bosnian meatballs), at our local restaurant in Baščaršija. Subsequently, we will head to our hotel for accommodation at the time designated by our guide and conclude the day.
After having our breakfast at the hotel, we depart from our hotel at 08:00 to tour Mostar, the largest and most beautiful city in the Hersek region. We pass through the small towns along the way and arrive at our first stop, the city of Konjic (Konyits, Sarajevo – Konyits 50 km). This small city, located by the banks of the Neretva River with a population of 50,000, has historical sites such as the Ottoman bridge that was damaged during World War II and the war from '92 to '95, which was restored by the Turkish Highway Authority and TIKA, the mosque with the broken minaret, and a mini bazaar that has been restored to its original state, all of which we will visit. After a photo break, we continue our journey.
Our second stop is Jablanica, the city where Josip Broz Tito, the founder of Yugoslavia, earned his marshal title during the war. (Yablanitsa, Konyits – Yablanitsa 23 km) This city is also famous for its lamb roast; here, we see the bridge that Tito destroyed in 1943 during his struggle against the German Nazis as well as the area where the event took place. We then proceed towards Počitelj.
Počitelj (Počitely, Jablanica – Počitely 76 km) is a typical Turkish village that has been restored in its original form. Located 15 kilometers from the Croatia border, this village has survived since the time of Tvrko (1381), and we will see the following places;
Next, we head to the Alperenler Tekke, established at the source of the Buna River 5 centuries ago. (Blagaj Tekke, Počitely – Blagaj Tekke 24 km) Guests who wish can have lunch at our local restaurant with a trout menu overlooking the Buna River, which boasts a flow of up to 43,000 liters per second. Afterwards, we visit the tekke, also known as the Sarı Saltuk Tekke. We visit the tomb of Ali Pasha and the tomb of Sarı Saltuk located within the tekke, along with seeing this two-story house built in the form of a typical Anatolian house which includes women's mosque, courtyard room, men's mosque and dhikr room, a small bathhouse, and a room that was used as a kitchen. Guests can enjoy Turkish tea in the courtyard overlooking the river if they wish.
After that, we proceed to our final destination, the city of Mostar. (Blagaj – Mostar 12 km) On our way, we see the Mostar Airport and the military area built across from the airport during Yugoslavia, which was prepared for hiding airplanes. This area has been prepared by hollowing out the inside of the hill right across from the airport. Once we arrive in Mostar, we start our tour on foot. The places we will visit during our tour include;
There will be free time to shop and enjoy the city in Mostar. Afterwards, we gather at the time determined by our guide and head towards Sarajevo. On the way, we have dinner at famous lamb rotisserie restaurants in the town of Jablanica, where we will have the lamb roast menu. Afterward, we proceed to Sarajevo. Upon arrival, we check in at our accommodation hotel.
After having our breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for the city of Travnik, known as the city of viziers, at 09:00. During our journey, we will travel through lush green mountains reminiscent of the Black Sea and alongside the Bosna River, which will accompany us along the way. As we pass through the city of Visoko, we will observe the famous Bosnian Pyramids. There is a theory that the history of the pyramids dates back even before the Illyrians, who settled in the Balkans before the Slavic tribes began arriving in the region around AD 600.
Arrival in Travnik. (Sarajevo - Travnik 90 km) During our walking tour of the city of Travnik, we will see the following places;
After the tour, our guests may enjoy lunch at a restaurant in the bazaar, featuring the famous meatballs of Travnik (our lunch recommendation). After some free time, we will head towards Sarajevo. On our way, we will stop by the village of Ahmići, which hosted great tragedies on April 16, 1993. In the courtyard of the Ahmići Mosque, we will visit the martyrs' monument and the exhibition hall displaying photographs of the massacre. After hearing the stories of the 116 people who were killed, ranging from the youngest at 3 months to the oldest at 86 years old, from our guide, we will proceed to Sarajevo. Upon arrival, we will go to our local restaurant for dinner. After our meal, we will return to our hotel for accommodation.
After having our breakfast at the hotel, we check out at 09:00 and depart. First, we arrive at the national park "Vrelo Bosne," which is the source of the Bosna River, located at the foothills of Mount Igman, where the 1984 Winter Olympics were held. In this natural park, where swans and wild ducks live freely, we have the opportunity to see water sources and every shade of green and autumn according to the season. After some free time, we visit the Life Tunnel, which was dug under the airport and was one of the critical moves of the Bosniaks during the war between 1992 and 1995. This tunnel, which changed the course of the war and is known for the longest siege in history (4 years and 4 months), has a museum where we feel the war through a 15-minute video prepared from original images. After touring this museum, which displays a photo gallery, war maps, and tools used during the war, we proceed to the airport. After passport and customs procedures, we depart for Istanbul with our scheduled flight.
